Some NYE firsts (for me):

- First NYE I haven't had to work in over 5 years

- First NYE I've not been home avoiding the crowds in 3 years

- First NYE I've not touched a drop of alcohol in I really don't know how many years - probably 20+

- First NYE I've not made any resolutions

Let's see what 2014 has in store... HAPPY NEW YEAR BLOGOSPHERE!

Monday, 30 December 2013

Delicious dinner at Hellenic Republic. As always, the saganaki and peppered figs is TO. DIE. FOR.

(The service could do with a kick up the arse, however.  Asking the waiter no less than three times to bring my wine and waited almost 40 mins before he complied.  Was beginning to think someone was out back stomping grapes in a barrel.)

Sunday, 29 December 2013

Am getting into bad sleeping habits. Must try and get to bed before midnight tonight and get up before 10am tomorrow. Joys of staycation?

Saturday, 28 December 2013

For someone who got chucked out of home ec in ninth grade for sewing through her finger (yes, through), I'm not doing too badly with this upholstery malarkey. Boxed cushion for blanket box - finished!

Friday, 27 December 2013

A lazy sleep-in and an afternoon phwoaring over dwarves and elves (aka The Hobbit 2). Staycations are awesome!

Thursday, 26 December 2013

I don't mind at all working on Boxing Day... not when I get paid double time (and I still have three weeks leave remaining from my other job)!

Wednesday, 25 December 2013

First Christmas in years I've not had to wake up early and follow someone else's mad schedule. Five hour picnic in the Botanic Gardens and a delicious dinner made by a lovely friend, followed by some Griswald Christmas watching. Bliss.

Tuesday, 24 December 2013

I'd forgotten how good it is to have a family-obligation-free Christmas. Utterly selfish? Probably.

Monday, 23 December 2013

Sometimes accidents happen in the gingerbread world and you just have to work with what you've got... partially severed limbs, completely severed wings and heads... it's all part of the Christmas spirit!

Sunday, 22 December 2013

Took advantage of the lack of (badly playing) Salvation Army musicians outside work today to amp up my own Christmas playlist. Much, much better.

Saturday, 21 December 2013

All caught up on shows which are now on Christmas break. Time to start catching up on all the movies I missed in 2013.

Friday, 20 December 2013

Must take my writing to the park on sunny days more often. Had lots of snuggles and sloppy licks from all the dogs running about... almost as good as having my own puppy!

Thursday, 19 December 2013

I really do have some awesome friends.  A free ticket to this. What a (Christmas) treat!

Wednesday, 18 December 2013

Just as well it's going to be 40C tomorrow... might give the ceiling in the living room and bathroom a chance to dry out post-woman-upstairs-flooding-her-entire-flat-causing-leaks-in-mine. Grrrr.

Tuesday, 17 December 2013

Nothing like being awoken from your first sleep-in in weeks, by the estate agent coming to do a flat inspection... sigh.

Monday, 16 December 2013

Staycation Day 1:

Berry picking in Silvan with the munchkins.

We ate almost as many as we collected...

Sunday, 15 December 2013

Am excellent hostess/tour guide. Proof? Despite my fear of heights, I agreed to do The Edge Experience with a visiting mate.*

* I may have looked at the sky the majority of the time and not looked down below...

Saturday, 14 December 2013

Day spent playing tourist in my hometown... five hours at Melbourne Museum, including the Designing 007 exhibition, up to Lygon St for dinner at Ti Amo and dessert at Brunetti, then a stroll home along the Yarra and through the Botanic Gardens taking in the Music Bowl and the Shrine of Remembrance.

Friday, 13 December 2013

Last day at work for five weeks! Yay for staycations!

Thursday, 12 December 2013

House is clean, laundry is done and Christmas tree is up.  I'd post a pic of the tree, but my iPhone is doing some stupid update which is taking FOREVER.

Wednesday, 11 December 2013

No one really needs reminding about Ace of Base, Trophy Wife.

(Unless you were intending it to be a warning of the dangers of glögg + 90s music.  Yeah. That must be it.)

Tuesday, 10 December 2013

Seriously haemorrhaging money right now... and not on anything remotely fun.  Why is it that major bills coincide with Christmas?

Bah humbug.

Monday, 9 December 2013

My last Monday at work until mid-January!  The staycation is almost upon us... woohoooo!

Sunday, 8 December 2013

I do wonder about the future of society given the dimwittedness of some of the 'interns' I got stuck working with today.  I doubt they could even spell the word initiative, let alone practice it.

Saturday, 7 December 2013

Ugh, that's right... Bon Jovi. Douchebags to work for. I'd all but forgotten.

Friday, 6 December 2013

Thankfully (depending on how you look at it), the Design Market was full of same-same hipster crap, so my wallet escaped a battering.

Then we decided to go to Koko Black for dessert desgustation. Mmmmmm.  Now in a sugar coma.

Thursday, 5 December 2013

Missing some of my most favourite books*, but have no idea who's borrowed them. I'm slightly distressed.

*Said books include: To Kill A Mockingbird; Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas; and Send Yourself Roses. Any leads on potential borrowers, welcome.

Wednesday, 4 December 2013

Managed to achieve NOTHING on my to do list today, so have double the amount to do tomorrow.  Hmmmm.

Tuesday, 3 December 2013

Every place I've ever worked, there's always at least one uptight, twitchy, challenging person.  My new work place is no exception, it seems.

(Luckily, the rest of the gang are pretty easy-going)

Monday, 2 December 2013

The home internets is giving me the irrits. Keeps cutting out for no apparent reason... GRRR.

Sunday, 1 December 2013

A solid three hours at the library and the book is getting into some kind of shape... or at least to the point where I can figure out what should go where.

Saturday, 30 November 2013

Saturday sleep-ins and lazy afternoons strolling the neighbourhood before curling up to finish a good book are the BEST.

Friday, 29 November 2013

A whole weekend of nothing planned. BLISS.

Thursday, 28 November 2013

Thanksgiving dinner done and dusted for another year. Good food, good wine and good friends. I have a lot to be thankful for.

Wednesday, 27 November 2013

Turkey is brining, veggies are chopped, gingerbread turkeys are baked. Fingers crossed tomorrow's Thanksgiving feast preparation will be smooth sailing!

Tuesday, 26 November 2013

A little reminder of things we should say more often, courtesy of Kid President:

Monday, 25 November 2013

First day at the new job... such a pleasant change from the old one.

Sunday, 24 November 2013

Definitely prefer Benedict Cumberbatch as the creature... more intricate physicality. However Jonny Lee Miller makes a much better Victor Frankenstein... more gravitas and inner turmoil. So glad I saw both versions.

Saturday, 23 November 2013

An afternoon at the Nova watching a screening of the National Theatre's 2011 production of Frankenstein, with Benedict Cumberbatch as the creature. Utterly gobsmacked by his physicality. Just brilliant.

Friday, 22 November 2013

Aaaaaaand... SCENE.

Today (hopefully) marks the end of my ticketing career.

Woohooooo!

Thursday, 21 November 2013

Very enjoyable evening at the theatre seeing my fellow heavenly creature (aka my sister from another mister) strutting her stuff pulling off a PERFECT DC accent.  Pity I was the youngest there by about 30+ years...

Wednesday, 20 November 2013

Friday really can't come soon enough.*

*One more shift at my ticketing job. Just one more and then I'm done. Free. Finito!

Tuesday, 19 November 2013

An unexpected free night... is it pathetic of me to tuck myself up in bed with a good book?

Don't particularly care if it is.

Monday, 18 November 2013

Best way to spend a Monday night...

Sunday, 17 November 2013

Mobile phones + public libraries = bad manners.

Had to listen to some bloke yabbering on about scheduling a squash game for ten minutes, whilst everyone around him was trying to quietly read/study/write.

So. Rude.

Saturday, 16 November 2013

Every single episode of Scandal's two-and-a-bit seasons thus far has had me exclaiming "SHUT. UP!!" (in manner of Elaine from Seinfeld) at least once, but the latest one is the only one to have caused me to exclaim it IN EVERY SCENE. Well played, Shonda Rhimes, tv writer extraordinaire. Fabulous episode.

Friday, 15 November 2013

For someone who was kicked out of sewing class in 9th grade for stitching through her finger, I sure am spending a lot of time (and money) at Spotlight lately.

Thursday, 14 November 2013

Fairly certain Mel & I got immense bang for our buck at the $28 all-you-can-eat tapas tonight. I lost count after 12 dishes...

Wednesday, 13 November 2013

The kids upstairs got a puppy. Gus the Cavoodle. I want to steal him. Too. Adorable.

Tuesday, 12 November 2013

Fairly certain that my entire face peeling is not the result my acupuncturist was going for when she prescribed this ointment...

Fucking rosacea. Why must you torture me so?

Monday, 11 November 2013

Planning of my annual Thanksgiving feast starts with the arrival of my USA Foods order.

Sunday, 10 November 2013

Pajama Sunday brought to you by The Daily Show, Downton Abbey and The Big Bang Theory.

Saturday, 9 November 2013

Spring Racing Carnival has now been ticked off my "very Melbourne things to do at least once in my life" list.

Friday, 8 November 2013

Slight signs of improvement... fingers crossed.

Thursday, 7 November 2013

Fact: Chinese herbal medicine smells disgusting and tastes revolting.

Fact: Practitioner's advice to eat a piece of dried fruit immediately afterwards as it instantly takes the taste away is SOMETHING THEY COULD'VE CLUED ME IN ON YEARS AGO!!

Wednesday, 6 November 2013

Two and a half weeks... or as my colleague put it earlier today: SEVEN SHIFTS.

I can deal with seven shifts.

I think.  I hope.

Tuesday, 5 November 2013

Between two work sweeps and my own TAB picks, I had EIGHT potential winners in the Melbourne Cup. Did any of them even so much as place? Did they bollocks.

Monday, 4 November 2013

Damn. Should've held out a tiny bit longer and taken what was going to be offered.

Ah well. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

It's all part of the Plan.

Sunday, 3 November 2013

A lazy day, ticking a few things of the to-do list, followed by some Loki-adoring on the Xtreme screen with some of my favourite people.  Perfect Sunday.

Saturday, 2 November 2013

Maaaaan, my body is screwed. up. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, work your magic please - I can't take much more of this.

Friday, 1 November 2013

And so Eddie has left Poetry City. My fortnight of working every day for 14 hours is ended.

And a guy just spewed his curry all over the tram. Pleasant.

Thursday, 31 October 2013

First session with the acupuncturist today... let's see how it goes!  Anything's better than having to go on Roaccutane.

Wednesday, 30 October 2013

The security dude at work tonight told me I looked "tired".  That's an understatement buddy. I look exhausted. Because I am.  Leaving the house at 8am, working all day/night and getting home at 11pm is doing my face no favours. Clearly.

Tuesday, 29 October 2013

Soooo, apparently my vitamin D level is so abnormally low (16, when it should be a minimum of 75), that I need to take six times the usual dosage of supplements and sit in the sun for at least two hours a day.

Doctors. Heh. They really don't live in the real world, do they? Who has time to sit in the sun for two hours a day (if they're not on vacation)?!  Not me, that's for sure.

Monday, 28 October 2013

If I'd only received the memo about not having to wait for security to lock up, I'd have been home at least forty five mins sooner.

Ugh. At least now I know.

Sunday, 27 October 2013

Finally the house is clean again post-tradies' mess. Now just to catch up on paperwork... maybe that's a task for next weekend.

Saturday, 26 October 2013

OK Spring. Any time you're ready... I'm over having to wear my winter woolies - it's almost November!!

Friday, 25 October 2013

Notice given in current job, without a confirmed job to go to.

Surprisingly unbothered about this.

For now.

Ask me again in 4 weeks...

Thursday, 24 October 2013

First long day in a ten day stretch of 14hr work days and I'm knackered already! This does not bode well... 😳

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

Getting geared up to follow your advice, Amy.

Stay tuned, peeps.

Tuesday, 22 October 2013

Must learn to write my 'to-do's down when they're actually buzzing around in my head... I've just sat down to make a list and my mind is blank, but I know there's a million things I need to do over the next couple of days.*

*When I say 'million' I mean at least ten or more. Obviously.

Monday, 21 October 2013

'Team Carlos Danger' lost the trivia comp by a measly TWO POINTS!!! Grrrr. However I was the only person to correctly identify 'The Fall Guy' in the TV Theme round, so I'm claiming a personal victory there.

(As an aside... sixty people of varying ages in the room and no one but me rembembers The Fall Guy? Lee Majors? Really?)

Sunday, 20 October 2013

All That Is Wrong, by Koba and Zach from Ontroerend Goed.  Theatre at its most powerful and poignant. Blessed to have experienced it.

PS - This image is of the set, which was made up of nine giant chalkboards on the floor, which Koba and Zach wrote all over, then lifted up to form a wall. At the end of the show Koba photographed it, Zach put the photo card into the printer and they printed out copies to hand out to anyone in the audience who wanted one.  An amazing gift, especially since I imagine every show is just a little bit different, which makes it even more special.

Saturday, 19 October 2013

Was so relaxed on the beautician's table today as she was spreading hot wax over my body and inflicting (what most people would consider to be) extreme pain, that I almost fell asleep. Surely I am a freak.

Friday, 18 October 2013

It's Friday.

Which means it's Stay-At-Home-And-Watch-Scandal-And-Parks-and-Recreation Night.

No one bother me for the next couple of hours please.

Thursday, 17 October 2013

Signs I rarely watch news:

A friend in Europe emails asking if I'm anywhere near the fires and I have no clue what she's on about therefore have to google.

Turns out NSW is being ravaged. Stay safe friends o'mine north of the border.

Wednesday, 16 October 2013

I should know by now that when everyone on the twit is calling an episode "the funniest ever", that I just won't find it amusing. At all.

(Or maybe I'm just still suffering from a case of the mean reds)

Tuesday, 15 October 2013

Yet again, the awesome teenagers of Ontroerend Goed blow me away with their work. Incredible stuff. Teenage Riot at Melbourne Festival. See it.

For those who do/have... THE TWIZZLER?!? Can't. EVEN.

Monday, 14 October 2013

Second attempt at the bread making after last week's disaster with gluten-free flour. Not bad, definitely edible, but I think I need a better pot than the one I'm using. Might try using the tagine next time?

Sunday, 13 October 2013

Introduced my coworker to the joys of Movie Ticket Radio today... he was particularly impressed by a Rita Coolidge key change.

Saturday, 12 October 2013

The insanity caused by my job reduces me to quoting Forrest Gump:

"Sometimes, there just aren't enough rocks."

Friday, 11 October 2013

My boss bought me flowers and chocolates today. Which was a rare highlight in an otherwise fairly crapola day... workwise.

Thursday, 10 October 2013

A little DIY for the afternoon... a few sheets of MDF, a few brackets (because I got my inner-shelf measurements wrong!), some Japanese origami paper, some Modge Podge and presto! A new home for the DVDs and a use for the wasted space that used to be a fireplace.

Wednesday, 9 October 2013

Watch It Wednesday. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Mindy Project, Trophy Wife and The Daily Show (x2).  All my week's TV viewing crammed into two hours. Well, minus Parks & Rec and Scandal, of course.

Tuesday, 8 October 2013

As part of a friend's daughter's school project, I have Flat Briella (from Pittsburgh, PA) visiting me.  Today we took in a few Melbourne landmarks.

Monday, 7 October 2013

I am not getting a cold. I am not getting a cold.  I am not getting a cold. I am not getting a cold.  I am not getting a cold. I am not getting a cold.  I am not getting a cold. I am not getting a cold.*

* if I repeat it enough times I might convince my body not to succumb...

Sunday, 6 October 2013

A crafty Sunday... bunting made with the scraps leftover from the cushion project!

(Note to self: put re-upholstering those chairs further up the to-do list)

Saturday, 5 October 2013

An Artist Date... to Spotlight.  Is that nerdy?  If it is, I don't really care. I'm going to make bunting with the scraps from my cushion project!

Friday, 4 October 2013

I'm up to 30,377 words. That feels like a lot. That feels a lot like progress.

Yay me.  Yay for quitting facebook, which has freed up the time for me to do this!

Thursday, 3 October 2013

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D - tick
The Mindy Project - tick
The Daily Show (guest: my doppelgÀnger - woohoo!) - tick
Trophy Wife - tick

I think that's enough TV for one night. Bedtime!

Wednesday, 2 October 2013

Got a sneak peek at the work of the VCA kids tonight... holy crap but there's some talent there. Excited and inspired.

Tuesday, 1 October 2013

Cockwombles like this guy should not be in charge of anything, let along a government's pursestrings.

I was living in DC during the 1995/96 shutdown. It was annoying and painful and pointless.  Clearly, Congress has learned nothing.  America, you need to vote this guy out as soon as you can.

Monday, 30 September 2013

Let's just write today off as a complete pain-in-the-arse-waste-of-time-filled-with-cockwombles, shall we?  Great.  Roll on tomorrow and a day at the job that doesn't drive me insane.

Sunday, 29 September 2013

[this page left intentionally blank]*

* Because some days, there's just nothing worth saying

Saturday, 28 September 2013

Last time this happened, I was in a pub in London at 6am (local time) watching it with a bunch of other expats.

This time, I was home in Melbourne.  Sadly, not at the MCG, but at least I was in the right city.

Go Hawks!!  2013 Premiers!  Wooohoooo!

Friday, 27 September 2013

I've been bouncing around in excitement all day anticipating tonight's return of my favourite show. LITERALLY.

Thursday, 26 September 2013

So many choices... I can't decide!

Wednesday, 25 September 2013

Sometimes, the universe really does know what you need... #FindingWater

Tuesday, 24 September 2013

Walked home from newer job (which took an hour) and STILL made it home before I would've if I'd PT'd from my other job.  Just sayin'...

Monday, 23 September 2013

Fourth round of laser for my rosacea and I have perfected my Allison Reynolds impersonation for the tram journey home...

Sunday, 22 September 2013

Oh Sydney, you minx. Turning on the blue skies and sunshine for a lunchtime catch up at the Opera Bar with the original Sydney gang, then giving me the journey home from hell... complete with airport train-bus replacements and kicking, screaming toddlers on all sides for the hour-long flight.

Saturday, 21 September 2013

Hello Sydney. Nice day for a catch-up lunch with some old mates and an evening wedding of another.

Friday, 20 September 2013

Working a full day on 2 hours sleep is never fun... an early night methinks.

Thursday, 19 September 2013

Today's Artist Date consisted of a trip to the paint store (Milk Paint. It's a thing. Really.) where I ran into a Prue & Trude (my suburb is full of them!); followed by a trip to the library to browse through books written to tell me how refinish furniture using said milk paint. Sounds weird, I know, but it was a FUN two hours.

Oh and the two and a half hour Skype with the British-Belgian Bestie was fun too.

Wednesday, 18 September 2013

Bastard workmen destroyed my jasmine. DESTROYED.  Bastards.

Tuesday, 17 September 2013

InDesign, you are my bitch.  Never used it before today, yet I've managed to produce two 10+ page theatre programs and a poster.

WINNING.

PS - I love this job. Paid to create. What more could you ask?

Monday, 16 September 2013

Haters gonna hate, but I stand by my call that The Newsroom finale was awesome. Sloan Sabbith and Leona Lansing are my heroes.

Sunday, 15 September 2013

A lovely lunch, an excellent piece of theatre and a Skype with my creative cluster. Plus, some more work on the book.  Sunday, you get a big ol' tick and a smiley face.

Saturday, 14 September 2013

Love my Saturday morning brunches with Lady B, followed by a big shop at the Queen Vic Market.

Friday, 13 September 2013

Finding out your MD is an active supporter of the new PM... yet another reason to get the hell out of dodge.*

*Dodge being my current workplace

Thursday, 12 September 2013

Granted, Salinger isn't the greatest documentary ever produced, but there was enough in it to: (a) hold my attention for 2 hours; and (b) get me digging out For EsmĂ©—with Love and Squalor from the bookshelf when I arrived home.

Wednesday, 11 September 2013

Cushions are done! Now for some furniture re-painting...

Tuesday, 10 September 2013

No guesses as to how I'm spending this evening...

#SewingNerd

Monday, 9 September 2013

Monday nights just won't be the same when The Newsroom finishes next week.

Sigh.

Sunday, 8 September 2013

Nothing like notifications that: (a) window repainting commences tomorrow; and (b) hard rubbish collection is on Friday, to motivate me to spend the day cleaning and moving my bike, clearing the balcony of plants and ditching the broken BBQ (not to mention weeding and clearing the entire garden patch under my balcony).  Throw in a few long-overdue sewing tasks and I'm feeling quite satisfied with my domestic prowess today.

Saturday, 7 September 2013

The depression caused by seeing so many wealthy, designer-pram-pushing, Gucci-clad, Mercedes-driving thirty-somethings in my electorate shunning every How To Vote card bar the Liberal Party's was tempered somewhat by the number of baby boomers and elderly accepting my Greens HTV card to the exclusion of all others.

Oh and by my upstairs neighbour (he of the loud, weird music) ripping both the ALP and LNP a new one over their treatment of asylum seekers and slashing of foreign aid. THAT was a joyous thing to witness.

Friday, 6 September 2013

Slightly stressed about what tomorrow will bring... and the consequences of a public who choose poorly.

Thursday, 5 September 2013

I'm so disillusioned with Australian politics that I'm contemplating moving to Sweden.

What say you, Lotta?  May I come hang out in your wonderful country for a few years while mine goes to hell in a handbasket?

Wednesday, 4 September 2013

It's official. I've turned into a sewing nerd.  I popped into Lincraft on my lunch break, bought more material, came home after work and continued sewing until nearly midnight.

Now if I could just learn to sew something a little more advanced than cushion covers...

Tuesday, 3 September 2013

The thrill I get from leaving work at 5pm, jumping on a tram, watching the sun begin to set on the journey home and walking in the front door by 5.30pm is something I could get used to.  Easily.

Monday, 2 September 2013

NO NEWSROOM? THERE'S NO NEWSROOM FOR ME TO WATCH TONIGHT?  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!*

*Apologies for shouting. I've been blindsided on this one. It's rattled me.  I came home expecting to get my weekly Sorkin fix.

Sunday, 1 September 2013

A catch up with three wonderful friends (in person and via Skype), plus the satisfaction of finally embarking on my living-room-renovation project, leads me to declare this a VERY good weekend.

Saturday, 31 August 2013

It's totally lame that I've spent the last two nights sewing cushion covers (x2) and a draft stopper (x1), right? RIGHT?  Anyway. I don't care. I'm on a living-room-makeover roll.  Next weekend I'm going to buy PAINT!!

Friday, 30 August 2013

Heeeey, Brother.*

Now I need to learn to sew more than cushion covers.

* Said in the style of Buster Bluth

Thursday, 29 August 2013

I've been off Facebook for a whole week already and don't miss it in the slightest.*

*My Twitter-ing may have increased slightly to compensate, however... I mean, c'mon, I can't go totally Amish. I need some social media in my life.

Wednesday, 28 August 2013

Got my allocated spot for volunteering at a polling booth on Election Day on behalf of The Greens.  The local kinder which always puts on the most kick-ass Election Day sausage sizzle - boooyah!!!

Tuesday, 27 August 2013

Awesome night out at the theatre watching a mate strut his stuff in an hilarious Shakespeare. Nice one H.

Monday, 26 August 2013

A last-minute free ticket to MTC's The Cherry Orchard... whilst it didn't blow my socks off, it raised some really awesome discussions post-show and gave me a chance to catch up with some awesome mates.  Happy Monday.

Sunday, 25 August 2013

Brunch with an old friend, followed by a stroll around the shops, followed by an afternoon movie chuckle... I like these kind of Sundays.

Saturday, 24 August 2013

Two days ago I thought I'd lost this (which I've worn almost every day for the last 14 years):

I'd turned my house upside-down searching for it and was utterly devastated.

Luckily, it turned up this morning... hiding on the cover of this:

Phew.

Friday, 23 August 2013

Thursday, 22 August 2013

Nothing makes me feel more treasured than receiving (two) emails from (two) lovely friends on opposite sides of the world, (both) with the subject line: "Love You".

Wednesday, 21 August 2013

Life refocus, step one: Deactivating Facebook.

Happiness Project 'Moment of Happiness' daily email received a few minutes after hitting the 'deactivate account' button:

“A state of affairs which leads to daily vexation is not the right state."
- Goethe

I'd say that's about right.

Tuesday, 20 August 2013

I'd forgotten how nice it is to work in a job where there are no customers; easy-going, appreciative colleagues; and an interesting workload. Fingers crossed it grows into more than a one-day-per-week thing!

Monday, 19 August 2013

Rooftop Art Exhibitions are all well and good in summer, but a damn cold place to spend an evening in winter - even with outdoor heaters about the place. Brrrrrr.

Sunday, 18 August 2013

A lovely catch up with an old Sydney mate, seeing Joss Whedon's brilliant version of Much Ado About Nothing. The perfect Sunday treat.

(Also, happy "would've been your 77th" birthday, Daddy. Miss you every day.)

Saturday, 17 August 2013

Saturday night. A bar in Brunswick Street. Arrested Development's "People Everyday" is playing.

Him: "You're probably too young to know this band... they were huge when I was about 14 - I have the album."

Me:  "Oh no, I was a fan.  I went to their concert. I was at UNIVERSITY."

Him:  "... ... ... ... ... ..."

Me:  *chuckles*

Friday, 16 August 2013

Stormy Friday nights are for staying in watching the footy. In my world at least.

Thursday, 15 August 2013

Love my morning skype sessions with overseas mates... and my afternoon teas with local mates. Warm fuzzies on a global scale.

Wednesday, 14 August 2013

Well that was a most enjoyable evening with Professor Brian Cox. Of course, I still feel incredibly ignorant about physics in all its forms and could not for the life of me explain string theory to you, but I enjoyed listening to him nonetheless.

(The fact he was inspired to become a rockstar after seeing Duran Duran in concert probably helped sway my opinion somewhat...)

Tuesday, 13 August 2013

First day of a new job... always exhausting. In a good way though!

Monday, 12 August 2013

"I made it to the rage phase"

Sloan Sabbith is awesome.

#TheNewsroom

Sunday, 11 August 2013

Re-watching Bill Cunningham New York and falling in love with the city and his adorable eccentricities all over again.

Saturday, 10 August 2013

A lazy Saturday day of reading and gardening - just what the doctor ordered.

Friday, 9 August 2013

Now that I'm in my forties, my tolerance for sub-standard theatre is about, ummmm... non-existent. The GBF and I Hot Shoe Shuffled off home at interval. Yowzers.

Thursday, 8 August 2013

New haircut has inspired a thorough clear out of the beauty products cupboard.  Getting back to basics.

Wednesday, 7 August 2013

Rosacea + Laser = Woke up with a super puffy face this morning. Ugh.

Tuesday, 6 August 2013

Why is it that independent theatre is so often far superior to mainstream theatre?  Equus rivals anything I've seen on the mainstage in the last few years.

Monday, 5 August 2013

Really not looking forward to tomorrow's rosacea lasering... although this time I must remember to load up on painkillers beforehand.

Sunday, 4 August 2013

Morning coffee with a visiting mate, followed by a stroll around the Monet exhibition and post-exhibition vinos with another mate. That's what I call a lovely Sunday.

Saturday, 3 August 2013

10pm on a Saturday is a pathetic time to be going to bed, but given I'm feeling absolutely rubbish, I don't care.

Friday, 2 August 2013

Phase 1 of Operation-New-Career confirmed today. Thankful. And excited!

Thursday, 1 August 2013

Tax return = Book Depository = Happiness

Wednesday, 31 July 2013

Scandal is DONE.

(and OH. MY. GOSH. that was awesome!)

Tuesday, 30 July 2013

Staying up past my bedtime AGAIN, proscandalating.   Only now I'm downloading all the music that I've Shazam-ed in each episode because it's so awesome.

Monday, 29 July 2013

Dissecting plays. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoy it... [rethinks dramaturgy as a career option]

Sunday, 28 July 2013

Went with 5-year-old Lottie to Build-A-Bear this afternoon. Wonder how many parents are tempted to record subliminal messages to put inside their kids' bears?!?

Saturday, 27 July 2013

Is there anything better than a cafe that knows too cook the bacon until it's almost charred?  I think not. Thanks Grigson & Orr!

Friday, 26 July 2013

Clutching at straws in the skin stakes... let's hope this ridiculously-priced serum does the trick.

Thursday, 25 July 2013

Aaaaaand, it's back on to antibiotics I go for another 4 months. Stupid rosacea, turning my face into a bacterial pizza again.

Wednesday, 24 July 2013

First of my Book Depository purchases arrived today... hopefully will have all of them by the weekend!

Tuesday, 23 July 2013

Binge-buying books from The Book Depository... something I haven't done since I got my last tax return.

Monday, 22 July 2013

Maggie: "If it goes to voicemail after two rings, they saw your name and sent you to voicemail. Four rings, they're not there; two rings, they don't want to talk to you."

Sloan: "Alright, I have to retrace my entire life now..."

As do I, Sloan. As do I.

It's Monday Newsroom time!

Sunday, 21 July 2013

Pretty much every show I've been watching for the last month is DC-centric. A desire to return to my first home-away-from-home, perhaps?

Saturday, 20 July 2013

Slava's Snowshow. Utterly enchanting.  There were bubbles!!  (I love bubbles)

Friday, 19 July 2013

Continuing the big week with dinner and more drinking.  A LOT more drinking, I expect.  Oh, my liver.

Thursday, 18 July 2013

Ballet Revolution at the Art Centre.
So shite we left at interval.

In other news, Emmy nominations are out and yet again, Parks & Rec are overlooked in favour of the tired old offerings from Modern Family and Big Bang Theory. Emmys committee, you're idiots.

Wednesday, 17 July 2013

Margaritas, Mexican and fun times with Lulu. Way to go Wednesday.

Tuesday, 16 July 2013

Truffle Mac'n'Cheese. Now THAT'S a side dish. Thank you Morris Jones (and Carmen & Debs).

Monday, 15 July 2013

A steampunk version of Cinderella, sung in English. Bonkers. And not in a good way. Still, it was funnier than Moonshadow.  And half as long.

Sunday, 14 July 2013

RIP Cory... even though Glee long ago jumped the shark for me, today's news made me really sad.

Saturday, 13 July 2013

Saturday Scandal marathon. It's my new addiction.  ;)

Friday, 12 July 2013

A piriformis muscle that is spasming so badly I've barely slept in days has made me so cranky and exhausted that I'm ready for ĂŒber-strength painkillers and bed at 8:10pm. FML.

Thursday, 11 July 2013

Nothing like spending the day participating in a play reading to revitalise the creative juices. Now awaiting the arrival of one of my most creative friends for a catch up dinner. Happy Thursday!

Wednesday, 10 July 2013

Scandal, where have you been all my life?  Soooo addicted.

But then, it's another show all about DC politics... why wouldn't I be?  I'm so predictable... ;)

Tuesday, 9 July 2013

Heater in bedroom officially dead. Could be next week before it's replaced... nanna's gonna need extra hot water bottles!!

Monday, 8 July 2013

A broken heater in the bedroom in the middle of winter?  Not ideal.  Going old school with hot water bottles...

Sunday, 7 July 2013

Reasons I love Sundays at the Queen Vic Market:

1.  Every cheese purveyor in the deli hall gives you free samples. We're talking PROPER cheese. French. Swiss. Greek. None of that crappy supermarket stuff.

2.  There are no less than five stalls which sell wine, all of whom are happy for you to taste as many wines as you like, with no obligation to buy.  You can get drunk very easily.  Hence the need for the cheese.

3.  Lamb bureks. They are the absolute shiz.

Saturday, 6 July 2013

The Kennett Curse is alive a well. Sigh. On the upside, I've done my tax and I should be getting a cracking refund.

Friday, 5 July 2013

Well that was a long day... thank god I can have a sleep in tomorrow!

Thursday, 4 July 2013

Finally replaced the kettle. My joy at not having to boil a saucepan of water to make a cup of tea knows no bounds.

Wednesday, 3 July 2013

Better to say nothing, or tell the truth?  Today's conundrum...

Tuesday, 2 July 2013

Have rediscovered the joys of an 80 cent packet of jello as a way of getting my daily sugar fix.*

*Also known as "Can't Afford Chocolate Until I Get Paid Tomorrow"

Monday, 1 July 2013

7.45pm isn't too early to go to bed is it?  I'm knackered. Plus, by the time I potter around getting ready for bed, it'll be 8.30pm.

Sheesh. When did I turn into such a nanna?

Sunday, 30 June 2013

Having House of Cards withdrawals... and I've only just finished watching the final ep.  Now to start on Scandal.*

*Yes, I'm a political/DC junkie.

Saturday, 29 June 2013

Thought for the day:

"If all we ever do is listen to a choir of our own choosing, it's easy to become convinced that our opinions are the norm and that all other thought is misguided, or marginal."

Friday, 28 June 2013

A call about a potential new job, treats from the LB team, a total fan-girl moment when Idina Menzel came to box office and finally arriving home to some free makeup samples... it's the little moments that make a day awesome.

Thursday, 27 June 2013

First world problem:

Feeling exhausted and just want to collapse into bed.

Remembered that I washed the sheets today and so need to make the bed before I can do so.

Sigh.

Wednesday, 26 June 2013

What a day in the political sphere. Wendy Davis commences a 13 hour filibuster against SB5 causing the GOP to pull all kinds of cheating stunts to try and stop her; then the misogynistic men of Australian politics finally succeed in removing a woman from the leadership who did more for our country than our right-wing-Murdoch-influenced media would have you know.

I need alcohol.

Tuesday, 25 June 2013

Kate E makes the best chai.

That is all.

Monday, 24 June 2013

A fabulous evening at the ACO... the only problem is, I come out of there wanting to download the music immediately, only to find some of it has never been recorded!  First world problems...

Sunday, 23 June 2013

To the people who invented Viber, I thank you for allowing an hour and a half's phone conversation with a lovely London-based friend I've not spoken to in ages, to cost us nothing!*

*Well, I'm sure it uses up some of my download limit, but since that's over 100GB a month, it's unlikely to be that much.

Friday, 21 June 2013

Once upon a time, Fridays in the office were about long, boozy lunches and winding down for the weekend from 4pm with a glass of wine at the desk.  When did they suddenly turn into work-your-ass-off-all-day-don't-get-a-lunch-break-call-it-quits-at-6.30pm-without-even-making-it-through-a-quarter-of-the-must-do-list?

Thursday, 20 June 2013

Coffee dates + Monsters University with a bestie + phone calls from awesome faraway friends + ACMI's Hollywood Costume exhibition with two other besties + cocktails and wine with a bunch more excellent peeps = A MOST EXCELLENT BIRTHDAY.

Wednesday, 19 June 2013

I wonder what this country is coming to sometimes.  I mean, all props to Lt Gen Morrison for standing up on behalf of women.  But if our PM stands up for herself (and the rest of the sisterhood)?  She's smacked down like a child.  It's wrong.  And it has to stop.*

*If that muppet Tony Abbott is elected come September, I am moving to Sweden.

Tuesday, 18 June 2013

It's amazing what a looming deadline can do for your motivation levels when it comes to doing really, really dull tasks like writing your own job description for a job you've been doing for over two years. (Because apparently, it's not HR's job to do it, unlike back in my HR days when all I seemed to ever do was write job descriptions.)

Monday, 17 June 2013

This pretty much sums up how I felt most of the day...

Again.

Sigh.

Sunday, 16 June 2013

Fondue followed by gin & tonic sorbet. Perfect Sunday night supper.

Saturday, 15 June 2013

Things that bug me that probably shouldn't #9271:  Not bothering to check the correct spelling of a name.

It's bad enough when people misspell my name (it's 'i', not 'y'); but if you're going to rave on Facebook about how awesome Jesus Christ Superstar was and single out the performances of "Pilot" and 'Kyaphas', then it's going to bug me that you didn't bother to even look in the program to see that it's 'Pilate' and 'Caiaphas'.

Friday, 14 June 2013

Being offered a free ticket to see Jesus Christ Superstar (with Tim Minchin, Mel C and Jon Stevens) is awesome enough; but arriving to find out it's a front row ticket on the section nearest to the side of the stage?  Well that's BEYOND.

(Also, Jon Stevens is still sexy as hell with a voice like silk.)

Thursday, 13 June 2013

Reminded so often of late to count my blessings... and there are many of them to be counted.

Wednesday, 12 June 2013

Nothing like being lulled into the idea that you have a night off, only to discover that because of a screw up from head office you have to work twelve hours straight.  Grrrr.

Tuesday, 11 June 2013

Yesterday's public holiday negated somewhat by having to work today - a day I don't normally work. Sigh.

Monday, 10 June 2013

I wish all awards shows were like the Tonys.  For a show honouring live theatre, they make a better job at a TV broadcast than those in the film and tv industry...

PS - Here's proof:

Sunday, 9 June 2013

Rearranged the entire living room whilst listening to Triple J's Hottest 100 of the last 20 Years.  Now have a lamb roast in the oven whilst I'm sipping a G&T and munching on blue cheese.  Simple Sundays are often the best.

Saturday, 8 June 2013

The Place Beyond the Pines. Highly unsettling. Definitely not the type of movie I was expecting given the cast list.

Friday, 7 June 2013

Watching American Beauty for the first time since it was released. Still as engrossing as I remember it.

Thursday, 6 June 2013

Hey! How did it get to be 8pm? I haven't done even half of the things on my to-do list for the day.

Grrr.

Wednesday, 5 June 2013

Working nights isn't nearly so bad when you spend it catching up with two of your favourite colleagues, one of whom has just returned from Eurovision and has TALES TO TELL.

Tuesday, 4 June 2013

A free ticket to see a show I had real reservations about seeing is always a bit of a gamble, but I'm glad I braved the chilly night air and went and saw Flowerchildren: The Mamas & The Papas Story.  It was pretty much a carbon copy of the Jersey Boys jukebox musical format, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and it reminded me of how much I love M&P's harmonies. Gorgeous.

Monday, 3 June 2013

This has been me.

ALL. DAY.

Ugh.

Sunday, 2 June 2013

Woke up at 8am.  Thought to myself: "that's a bit early - I'll just snooze for another hour".

Woke up again at 2.30.  PM.

Being sick has made this a totally wasted weekend.  Grrrrr.

Saturday, 1 June 2013

Third cold (or is it fourth?) this year. For someone who rarely gets sick, this is pissing me off no end.

Friday, 31 May 2013

At the moment, most days, I don't enjoy my job.  And today was no exception. But tonight, as part of my "work", I got to meet and have a photo taken with a performer I've loved since my childhood.  It's then I think "yeah, this job has its upsides".

Thursday, 30 May 2013

King Kong at the Regent Theatre. I wouldn't necessarily call it a musical (and the book is pants), but most of the music is brilliant and visually?  Oh. My. Goodness.  AMAZING.

Wednesday, 29 May 2013

Downside of a less-than-24-hour trip to Radders: working until after midnight, then having to be up at 6am for a flight home, then going straight to work and working until 7.30pm. I'm going to bed.

Tuesday, 28 May 2013

Upside of a less-than-24-hour trip to Radders: catching up with an old friend I haven't seen in at least a year.

Monday, 27 May 2013

Supposed to be packing for a work trip to Radders tomorrow. So far all I've done is downloaded the first ten eps of the new season of Arrested Development to my iPad for watching on the plane...

Sunday, 26 May 2013

I do wonder sometimes if I'm actually cut out for this "being a grown-up" malarkey.  Mostly when it comes to the "managing your finances" part.  I've no more financial nouse than a five year old.

Saturday, 25 May 2013

Lovely dinner at Albert St Food & Wine with Kitty Kat and Poiter... perhaps a little too much wine, but what the hey.  YOLO.  ;)

Friday, 24 May 2013

Two lovely mates in town for the weekend = Seamstress for post-work cocktails and chat.

Thursday, 23 May 2013

My career is a Clash song... and it's pretty obvious which one.

Wednesday, 22 May 2013

Finally caught up on the SNL finale... a little sad that Seth Meyers won't be doing  Weekend Update anymore, but it was awesome that Amy Poehler returned for his final one and I can't wait to see him take on Late Night next year!

Tuesday, 21 May 2013

Inspired to re-read some of my favourite childhood books after finding out that they've turned Judy Blume's book "Tiger Eyes" into a movie!

http://tigereyesmovie.com/

Monday, 20 May 2013

Took the struggle train into struggle town and spent eight hours struggling through a massive workload.  Enthusiasm is at an all-time low.

Sunday, 19 May 2013

Eurovision. After the Tony's and the Golden Globes, it's my favourite night of the year.

Saturday, 18 May 2013

Sunshine makes me happy.  A sunshiny Sydney makes me happy, but not so happy that I'd ever want to live here again!

Friday, 17 May 2013

First day back at work. Ugh. Can I go on hols again please?

Thursday, 16 May 2013

OMG, OMG you guys!  What a fun new show to see on my return home.  Snaps to the Legally Blonde gang... loved it.

Wednesday, 15 May 2013

FINALLY some decent sunshine. A trip to the lighthouse, a swim in the ocean, fish and chip lunch on the beach and then dinner at an amazing Thai restaurant with awesome new friends. Win.

Tuesday, 14 May 2013

Sunny afternoon in Byron... "let's go for a beach walk" is the plan. Ten minutes down the beach and we're hit by a monster rainstorm. Soaked through, we paddle back to the Beach Hotel for a drying out bevvy.

Monday, 13 May 2013

Afternoon at the spa... 1hr hot tub/sauna + 1.5hr hot stone massage = HEAVEN.

Sunday, 12 May 2013

A morning of craft with the hilarious Ruby, a bit of a sunbathe by the pool and the most delicious lunch from the 100 Mile Table crew... perfect Sunday.

Saturday, 11 May 2013

Another glorious Byron vacay day, topped off by a glorious Hawks win.
Huzzah!

Friday, 10 May 2013

Four women. Two nights. Twelve bottles of wine and half a bottle of gin demolished.

Thursday, 9 May 2013

Hello Byron Bay. Please relax me. Immediately.

Wednesday, 8 May 2013

Not leaving work until nearly 9pm was not the ideal way to start my vacation... but I'm outta there at last and have switched off all work emails from my iPhone and iPad.  Tomorrow morning, Byron Bay, I am all yours!

Tuesday, 7 May 2013

Last day of work tomorrow before a week's holiday!  Can. Not. Wait.

Monday, 6 May 2013

Is 9.30pm too early to go to bed?

Probably, but I'm doing it anyway.

Sunday, 5 May 2013

Four more sleeps...
Four more sleeps...
Four more sleeps...

(I'm a little bit excited for my Byron Bay getaway)

Saturday, 4 May 2013

If "groped by Steven Tyler" had ever been on my bucket list, then I can cross it off.  Eeeeewwww, looks like a lady.

Friday, 3 May 2013

Verdi's 'A Masked Ball'.  A thoroughly modern (some might say post-modern) interpretation, which I really enjoyed and found equal parts hilarious, ridiculous, thought-provoking, moving and just plain BONKERS.  Somehow I don't think my dad would've appreciated it much though...

Thursday, 2 May 2013

Eyelash tints are utterly pointless when you're a brunette.  A very dark-lashed brunette.  Thank god it was a freebie.

Wednesday, 1 May 2013

In the last 24 hours I have been reminded over and over how lucky I am to have some amazing friends. Really lucky. Blessed.

Tuesday, 30 April 2013

That moment just after your computer crashes and you hit the restart button only to realise that the blog post you'd made some awesome changes to just lost them all?

FAAARRRRK.  What did I write?  All I can remember is that it was GREAT.

Monday, 29 April 2013

"Uncle" Mandi has been tasked by six-year-old Ruby, to write a play for us to perform whilst we are on hols in Byron next month. It must have singing, dancing, cats, dogs and crabs. Yes. CRABS. Lordy.

Sunday, 28 April 2013

A day of pottering and cooking to try and mask the thought of another awful week at work.

Saturday, 27 April 2013

Ending the day with a cuppa and some Graham Norton is always enjoyable.

Friday, 26 April 2013

Had the shittiest work day ever. Came home, drank gin, ate chocolate and watched this:

Mood. IMPROVED.

Thursday, 25 April 2013

Anzac Day.  The only day of the year I don't mind getting up before dawn, because I'm doing it for Grandpa Bob and my Great-Uncles Jack, Clarrie, Charlie and Tom.  Attending the dawn service (this year, like last year, at the Shrine of Remembrance) has become a ritual I never experienced as a child, so it was heartening to see so many people bring their little ones along.  Nice to know the tradition is being kept alive by the next generation.

Wednesday, 24 April 2013

First night back at pilates after weeks.  No. MONTHS.  I am going to be sore tomorrow!!

Tuesday, 23 April 2013

Discovering I can still fit comfortably into an XL at Gap Kids is equal parts reassuring and frightening.

Monday, 22 April 2013

Farewell to Australia's ultimate rock chick - the divine Chrissy Amphlett. Too young, too soon. Hope you're carving it up there with the Hutchence, et al. \m/

Sunday, 21 April 2013

A lazy Sunday pyjama day.  I really need to start being more productive.

Saturday, 20 April 2013

10am flight to Sydney; 8pm flight home; first Aerosmith M&G done and dusted. Utterly exhausted.

Friday, 19 April 2013

A night out when the Loader's in town = a loader chat, a loader wine and a loader fun!

Thursday, 18 April 2013

My days off are turning into wasted days... very little enthusiasm to get anything done. Need a kick up the backside to get myself out of this funk.

Wednesday, 17 April 2013

Heading up to Sydney for a total of 8 hours on Saturday (for work). Am I excited to add to my ever-increasing total of frequent flyer points?  Not really.  Am I excited about running the Aerosmith meet'n'greet?  Nooooooo.  Am I excited that I get to sneak in a little lingerie shopping at the Victoria's Secret store at the airport?  HELLS. YEAH.

Tuesday, 16 April 2013

Monday, 15 April 2013

Head.
Wall.
Bang.

My career in a nutshell.

Sunday, 14 April 2013

Love a Hawks victory. Love it even more when it's against Collingwood and it's by 55 points.

Saturday, 13 April 2013

Announcing your nuptials by Instagramming a photo of your clasped hands wearing your wedding rings with the hashtags #hitched #cityhall #nyc.  Absolutely awesome.  Congrats to my favourite set-up. Ever.

Friday, 12 April 2013

Sometimes the only thing that will fix you is a long, hot bubble bath and a strong cup of tea. And bed before midnight. That's a bonus too.

Thursday, 11 April 2013

Always a pleasure to see the lovely Sarah - even more wonderful when we have a fun night out at trivia (and come second!).

Wednesday, 10 April 2013

Physically and mentally, my body is going on strike...

Tuesday, 9 April 2013

First show of MICF (with the lovely Dan), watching the most excellent Kelfi & Fikel. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Monday, 8 April 2013

The reaction to the death of Margaret Thatcher, even amongst my friends on Facebook and twitter, is polarising... I'm finding it quite fascinating.

Sunday, 7 April 2013

Driving Miss Daisy.  A masterclass in acting from three incredible performers.  So thankful to have been able to see it.

Saturday, 6 April 2013

Two thing it is physically impossible for my mother to do:

1. Sit still for more than five minutes

2. Stay quiet for more than 30 seconds

Friday, 5 April 2013

Every time I watch The Daily Show, my wish list on Book Depository gets longer. Sheryl Sandberg, welcome to the list.

Thursday, 4 April 2013

Really didn't plan on spending the majority of my day off feeling grimmer than grim with a head cold.  Grrr.

Wednesday, 3 April 2013

Farewelling someone who's been there your entire life is always hard...  miss ya and love ya, Bets.

Tuesday, 2 April 2013

Watched (for the gazillionth time) "You've Got Mail" with my ma tonight... I'd never realised that Chris Messina is in it! For like a nano-second...

Monday, 1 April 2013

Right, so I can tick THAT one off the list.  And two days ahead of the deadline.  Phew!

Sunday, 31 March 2013

Morning Easter egg hunt at the Harry's. Face painting, fairy floss and flower potting in the afternoon. Bogart/Bacall film noir double at the Astor with Greggers in the evening. A fab Easter Sunday.

Saturday, 30 March 2013

A day of DIY (potting herbs, an aloe vera plant and a lime tree; and draught-taping all the windows in preparation for winter) isn't the most glamorous way to spend Easter Saturday, but it's quite satisfying.
